ACES Fourth Year Elective Information Evening

Posted by Hoai My Truong (Association of Civil Engineering Students) on 15 October 2018

A night for Civil Engineering students to learn about the electives that are on offer.

Due to popular demand, ACES revamped and brought back the Fourth Year Elective Information Evening which was last held in 2015. Whilst the format of the event had changed, ACES retained the original essence of the event which is to inform students on what is to be expected from each fourth-year elective and provide them with general tips and advice to help them get through and be well-versed to make a choice that is right for them.

The event originally ran as a lecture where senior students would present, giving insight into fourth-year electives that they have recently completed to a student audience. However, this time around the event was held in an open space in EH3 and was run as an open forum-style discussion for a more personal experience.

On the night, eight student representatives – each responsible for an elective or two – had their own tables set up throughout the venue. Student attendees were welcome to approach the student representatives and ask questions about their past experiences in completing the electives over a light dinner and some refreshments.

This was a great opportunity for students to learn more about the fourth-year electives than what is offered in the Unit Handbook and gather information that will hopefully assist them with choosing their units for next year. Due to its success, ACES hopes to hold this event again next year to continue helping our peers!
