SMEE Industry Pathways Panel

Posted by Society of Monash Electrical Engineers on 11 October 2018

The SMEE Industry Pathways Panel brings together experts from industry.

On 12th September, the Society of Monash Electrical Engineers hosted their second annual Industry Pathways Panel. Featuring representatives from Mott MacDonald, EESA, Beca, Monash University, Invetech, and Dynamic Ratings.

Monash's own Prof James Saunderson provided insight into his time spent overseas at MIT and Caltech and how they impacted his career in research. Particular attention was given to why he wanted to travel to study and the benefits he took from his time there. So too was there interest in why he chose a career in research.

So too was there interest in Mott MacDonald - a large British consulting firm in the transport and power sectors. Representatives from Mott explained how their organisation fits into the industry, the kind of work they do day to day and what kind of opportunities their firm can offer.

SMEE sponsors Invetech provided a great deal of insight into how double degrees can be useful in the healthtech space. Double degrees are a major reason for students who choose to study at Monash, and hearing how they are put to good use in industry was a valuable experience.

Afterwards, students enjoyed dinner and a chance to chat informally with representatives.
