ACYA Careers Networking Night 2019

Posted by Georgie Bian (Australia-China Youth Association) on 12 September 2019

An evening of networking with a wide range of firm representatives and gaining further insight into the work opportunities after university.

The Careers Networking Night is an event open to all five Victorian Chapters of the Australia-China Youth Association (‘ACYA’), namely University of Melbourne, Monash University, Deakin University, RMIT and La Trobe University. Our club aims to provide our student members with a platform for both educational and professional development. In light of this, our focus this year was to provide our students with the opportunity to meet a wide range of industry professionals from their respective degree disciplines, including Commerce, Engineering, Law, IT, Education and Science.

This highly anticipated event allowed students to connect with professionals from leading international and domestic firms. We were fortunate to have the following firms attend: PwC, MinterEllison, Teach for Australia, IBM, IP Australia, KPMG, Canaan Lawyers, RACC, Bank of China, Evolve Lawyers and ShineWing Australia.

Each firm in attendance was stationed around the venue and provided with a table to accommodate for any marketing materials. Students were able to roam and network with each industry professional over a supply of canapes and drinks. The conversations typically aimed to provide students with further insight into the work opportunities available during or after tertiary education. Students were also able to learn more about their academic progress and the specific attributes recruiters were looking for in an ideal employee.

In a highly competitive economy with growing business potential in the Australia-China space, the correct industry connections can hopefully lead students to their ideal job.
